Joint Planning - Integration

Joint Planning and Integration

Working with other organizations can achieve outstanding results that individual organizations cannot accomplish on their own. The leverage of bringing together providers allows for system improvements that can lead to improved and easier access for patients, more effective care delivery and often cost savings. Medcura uses various tools to assist organizations to work together to achieve system goals. These include:

Seig Planning Matrix

The Seig Planning Matrix is a comprehensive planning system that brings all sectors of the health care system into the planning process along age related cohorts. This allows for specialized planning for target populations to meet unique local needs and demographic challenges. The system also identifies system enablers common to all providers and looks for ways to use these enablers to leverage system effectiveness. Click below to see the Seig Planning Matrix.

Nawa Ekosi Isi First Nation Community Health Planning (NEI Matrix)

Similar to the Seig Planning Matrix the Nawa Ekosi Isis (A Better Path) provides an approach to community health planning for First Nation communities. This approach supports a truly comprehensive local health plan model that develops local capacity and employment opportunities for First Nation communities. Click below to see the NEI Matrix.

Technology of Participation (ToP)

ToP methods were developed by The Institute of Cultural Affairs (ICA), a leader over the past five decades in promoting lasting positive change in organizations and communities around the world. Technology of Participation (ToP) is a powerful collection of structured facilitation methods that transform the way groups think, talk and work together.  They enable highly energized, inclusive and meaningful group collaboration that lead to successful outcomes.

Competition Continuum/Superordinate Goals

When two organizations come together they can have a variety of interactions or approaches to working together. Medcura has developed the Competition – Collaboration Continuum to determine whether organizations have the right approach to work together meaningfully. At one end of the spectrum is outright competition where one organization’s success comes at the expense of another – think about the rivalry between Coke and Pepsi for market share. At the other end of the spectrum is true collaboration where organizations align their efforts to achieve super-ordinate goals – goals that are bigger than their individual organization goals – overarching system goals or “super-ordinate” goals. To move across the continuum organizations must develop a Culture of Cooperation.

Culture of Cooperation

Organizations within the healthcare system tend to default into a competitive environment. It may be a competition for patients, Ministry funding, staff resources and public profile and reputation. To truly enter into a cooperative approach to system planning and delivery requires the development of  a “culture of cooperation”. Medcura can provide the tools and resources to educate and foster participants in the requirements for a Culture of Cooperation.

Change Management

There are dozens of change management models. Medcura uses the model developed by the Kaiser Permanente health system. This change management approach was developed for health care providers to ensure that necessary changes were taken on and successfully implemented.
